Yes, Tobago is truly a paradise, in this way we have seen it during our week in Tobago.
Tobago is an island of the Lesser Antilles, the gateway to the Caribbean and surrounded by beautiful beaches and offshore coral reefs. The Inland is dominated by a green mountainridge and the rainforest which is protected since 1776. The climate is tropical. Especially in the rainy season from June to December it rains sometimes. For this, Tobago is an island of green and a paradise for nature lovers with a rich fauna and flora.
Originally Tobago was inhabited by Native South American origin, these are
considered as extinct. Today Tobagoniens are mostly descendants of former
Africans and Indians. On Tobago we met only friendly, outgoing and live
joyful people who have a lot of rhythm in their blood and like to celebrate. Of course, you should not expect German thoroughness and German pace. In Tobago it dominates the Caribbean way of life, Liming is in. That will say:
Do nothing, relax, enjoy every moment, take your time, it’s just much more
relaxed than in Europe.
On Tobago, there is not yet the mass tourism as in many other Caribbean islands. Here you have still the opportunity to find a lonely romantic spot on the beach. Only at Pigeon Point, the most famous tobagonien beach, something more is going on.
It’s said that Tobago would also be the island where Daniel Defoe’s hero Robinson Crusoe was stranded. At least Tobago is very similar to the island described by Daniel Defoe and it is known that Daniel Defoe visited Tobago in the middle of the 17th Century.
For our visit we had taken a room in the hotel Turtle Beach by Rex Resorts
at Great Courland Bay. And this was a good choice. From our terrace it was only 50m over the sandy beach to jump into the warm sea , so we enjoyed every day before breakfast. We could also see the Leatherback turtles every night directly from our terrace.
One week in Tobago is very short, so that you do not get under stress and that there remains time for Liming, our 5 tips for Tobago:
1. A tour round the island is good to get an overview of the island and most of the beaches. The island tour is conducted by various vendors. But you can also simply and individually make it by a taxi.
2. Take a Trekking Tour through the rainforest. A highlight, don `t miss it. Necessarily do it with a local guide. These guys are worth their money.
3. Take an Off-road tour through the island’s interior. Usually offered
organized, with a swim stop at a waterfall.
4. Watch the Turtles laying their eggs or watch the turtle hatchlings. Many
hotels offer Turtle Walks.
5. Visit the famous Sunday School in Buccoo. Every Sunday in Buccoo located north of Crown Point, the Sunday School, will be a big event for locals and tourists to celebrate together, eating and drinking, with steel bands and disco until dawn.
